<끝> 시리즈 영역 마침 / Translated the End series to English

리디북스 독점 게재로 나왔던 <끝> 3부작의 영역을 마쳤다. 코스믹 호러 러브 스토리라고 할 수 있을 것 같다. 러브크래프트 작품들에 대한 오마주이기도 하고.

계약이 되어 있는 것은 아니고, 영작 연습도 하고 한국어판도 고치자는 목적으로 만들었는데, 재미있었다. 한국 사람의 이름을 어떻게 부르느냐도 곤란한 문제라는 것을 깨달았다. 예컨대 “김상문”을 매번 Kim Sangmoon이라고 썼는데, 한국어로는 괜찮지만 영어로 쓰니 거추장스럽게 느껴진다.

내가 번역을 하기는 했으되 이것은 기껏해야 샘플로나 쓸 수 있을 터이다. 만의 하나 영어판으로 나온다고 하면 아마 전문 번역가가 다시 해야 할 것. 그때 참고는 될 수 있겠다.

I finished translating the RIDIBooks exclusive Ends trilogy to English. It could be called a cosmic horror love story and an homage to H.P. Lovecraft’s works.

It’s not been sold or anything. I just did it to practice writing in English and to fix the Korean version as well. It was quite fun to do. I learned the difference between Korean and English when addressing people by their names was even greater than I had imagined. For instance, in Korean it would not be awkward to call someone by their full name every time. But in English, it’s noticeably cumbersome.

Even if the translation has been done, this can only serve as a sample. In the unlikely case that this ever finds an English publisher, a professional Korean-to-English translator should do it all over. My translation could serve as a reference, though.
